Thanks for stopping by to read my Remotasks Review.

If you’re searching for more time and flexibility in your life, it’s hard to find a better solution than to work at home. I know how it feels, and many others do too. You’re not alone.

Feeling trapped with no way out. It’s frustrating.

It’s hard to get ahead today, and it can seem impossible for some, no matter how hard they try. In fact, it can be hard enough just to keep up… forget about getting ahead.

Can Remotasks help you get what you want?

You might also be wondering if Remotasks is a scam. In this review, I’ll go over who Remotasks is, what they do, and how they work. And for those who are skeptical (I get it, I’m a skeptic too)… I’ll discuss whether they’re legit or a scam.

Here are the topics I’m going to discuss:

  • What is Remotasks?
  • Is Remotasks a Scam?
  • How Does Remotasks Work?
  • Remotasks Reviews and Complaints
  • What I Like About Remotasks

What Is Remotasks?

Remotasks is a micro-job site that has more than 240K “taskers and is available in 90 countries. You get paid to perform small tasks for various clients.

It’s similar to sites like Appen, Rapid Workers, and TryMyUI.

According to their Terms of Use, Remotasks is run by Smart Ecosystem, Inc., a Delaware corporation.

Remotasks Terms Of Use

They are headquartered at 398 11th Street San Francisco, California US 94103, and according to their trademark application (which seems to verify their address), was founded in April 2017.

Some tasks you’ll find at Remotasks include image tagging, transcribing, moderating comments, data gathering, and 2D/3D image annotation/categorization.

Some of the more difficult tasks involve light detection and ranging (LIDAR) and require in-house training. These pay better, which I’ll discuss below.

But first, I’ll go over a common question we’ve been emailed about regarding Remotasks. Is it legit or a scam?

Is Remotasks a Scam?

Remotasks is not a scam, but understandably, some might think it is. Whenever it comes to making money online, most people are skeptical. And for good reason. Most of these make-money sites and platforms are scams.

Fortunately, some are also legit.

Before Facebook changed its review and recommendation section, Remotasks had an overall rating of 4.4 out of 5 (based on 138 reviews at the time).

Remotasks Facebook Rating

Today, they have nearly 82,000 followers (and maybe more when you’re reading this).

Remotasks Fb Followers

Ratings and followers can be faked, so they are not absolute proof something is legit. In the case of Remotasks though, these are real. For the most part, at least. We can’t go through 80,000+ accounts to verify everyone, of course.

Based on many other user reviews I’ve researched, Remotasks regularly (and punctually) pay their members.

Also, Remotasks does not claim to be something they are not. They don’t promise huge paydays, nor are they claiming to make you rich. That doesn’t mean they’re perfect, but they are legit.

If I had to point at some red flags, they are owners and founders who seem to be anonymous, and although their address is listed on their trademark application, I’ve yet to find additional evidence that would validate it.

The only businesses I can find who are currently at this location are Webflow, Inc and Proactive Media.

It’s possible Remotasks rents a mail service from this building or has a sublease with one of the other businesses. Either way, that doesn’t make them a scam. They probably work remotely from home. The size of Smart Ecosystems, Inc (Remotasks) may not justify a full office space.

More importantly, there are many members who are getting paid from Remotasks (along with payment proof) and although there are complaints about the rate of pay, there are few about actual payment. Despite the red flags, Remotasks is not a scam.

If you’re still not sure it’s for you though, you can also make money with online survey sites like Inbox Dollars and Survey Junkie. Both also provide ways to make money doing online tasks.

Earning your first dollar online can be challenging, and sites like these are great way to get started. As you gain more experience online, like many of us, you might “graduate” into an online business.

You may be at home with children to look after or have health difficulties which make a regular job challenging.

If that’s the case and a full-time income online is what you want, knowing how and where to get started is what you need in order to get what you want.

How Does Remotasks Work?

Before you can make money with Remotasks, you’ll have to go through the usual steps of setting up an account.

How Do You Make Money On Remotasks

1. Signing Up

You can use your Facebook account to easily access the Remotasks platform, but I recommend using an email and unique password combination instead. With Facebook in possession of so much personal information, it’s safer to keep your account separate from third-party sites like Remotasks.

2. Getting Certified in Categories

To unlock categories and start working on tasks, you’ll need to pass various exams. However, these shouldn’t be too difficult. They have training for each category, and you can take a test as many as three times.

3. Performing Tasks in Unlocked Categories

Once you unlock task categories, you can start working. Below are some of the types of tasks that you can find on Remotasks…

  • Image annotation – This is one of the more straightforward jobs at Remotasks and involves drawing around objects to show their exact location in an image.
  • Categorization – You’ll use keywords to describe a particular object/image for this task. For example, you might label a garment by its type, color, and material; Coat, Blue, Cotton.
  • Image transcription – Describe the critical features of an image.
  • Audio transcription – Transcribe audio into text.
  • Data Collection – This research task involves gathering data online for clients. The topics can be about just about anything.
  • LiDAR tasks – LiDAR stands for Light Detection and Ranging. You will need to go through their free 10-day Bootcamp training for these tasks, which pay more than the others.

How Does Remotasks Work?

The appeal of Remotasks is that they are accessible and have minimal requirements to join.

You just need to be fluent in English and of legal age in your jurisdiction. You will also need a computer with at least 4GB of RAM, which most today have.

Keep in mind, you can log in using mobile, but they discourage the use of smartphones for many tasks.

I should also mention that you are not a Remotasks employee. Instead, you will be working as an independent contractor, which gives you the flexibility to work as much or as little as you want.

With LiDAR tasks, however, they recommend at least 20 hours of work per week.

Remotasks FAQ

How Much Can You Earn From Remotasks?

You can make roughly $1 to $3 per hour doing regular tasks, which is not much, I agree. It won’t replace your job income.

The pay rates depend on the difficulty of the job and the accuracy of your submissions. LiDAR tasks pay more than regular tasks.

Is Remotasks Free to Join?

Yes, Remotasks is free. There is a 2% transaction fee for PayPal payouts, but joining and performing tasks is free.

How to Become a Reviewer on Remotasks

You can perform tasks, and you can review tasks.

All jobs you submit are first checked by a reviewer before they are accepted (higher accuracy equals better pay).

Now, if you’re consistently submitting high-quality work, you can get promoted to a reviewers position.

In addition to a better rate for each task, getting promoted is another reason you should aim for higher accuracy. Reviewers get paid more.

How Do You Make Money on Remotasks?

There is more than one way to make money on Remotasks.

  1. Performing tasks is the primary way you’ll make money. With the risk of stating the obvious, the more jobs you do, the more money you’ll earn.
  2. You can get promoted as a reviewer and make money reviewing tasks.
  3. Refer others to Remotasks.

Some tips:

  • Unlock as many categories as you can through their training and exams.
  • This is quite obvious, but the more time you put into performing tasks on Remotasks, the higher your earning potential.
  • Do LiDAR tasks. As previously mentioned, these pay better than regular tasks. And, because they require training, LiDAR tasks are likely to have less competition.
  • Learn how to make money through referrals. There are resources to learn this type of online marketing, such as YouTube and free online courses.

How Does Remotasks Pay?

At the time of this Remotasks review, their payment method is through PayPal. This is actually my preferred method of payment.

Also, there are no minimum payout thresholds like many similar platforms have. You can withdraw your funds as needed or have them automatically paid out every Friday. There is, however, a 2% transaction fee which is not uncommon among work-at-home platforms and partners.

Where is Remotasks Available?

There seem to be some discrepancies online about where Remotasks is available. Remotasks themselves claim to be available in 90 countries but I couldn’t find a complete list of which countries they are referring to.

I did however find several smaller lists and combined them into one. This list should therefore be the most comprehensive:

AlbaniaHerzegovinaPeruAlgeriaHondurasPhilippinesArgentinaHungaryPolandBahamasIndiaPortugalBarbadosIndonesiaPuerto RicoBelizeJamaicaRomaniaBotswanaKazakhstanRussiaBrazilKenyaRwandaBulgariaKyrgyzstanSenegalCambodiaLaosSerbiaCameroonLebanonSomaliaChileLithuaniaSouth AfricaColombiaMadagascarSpainCosta RicaMalawiSri LankaCote d’IvoireMalaysiaSurinameCroatiaMauritiusTanzaniaDominican RepublicMexicoThailandEcuadorMoroccoTrinidad & TobagoEgyptNairobiTunisiaEl SalvadorNamibiaTurkeyEswatiniNepalUAEEthiopiaNetherlandsUgandaFranceNicaraguaUkraineGeorgiaNigeriaUruguayGermanyNorth MacedoniaVenezuelaGhanaPakistanVietnamGuatemalaPanamaZambiaGuyanaParaguayZimbabweHaiti

There’s also a lot of discussion online about Remotasks availability and it appears this list is evolving as new country requests come in. Please check with Remotasks if you’re uncertain.

Absent from this is are the countries most of our readers are from; the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

If Remotasks is not available in your country, you can also make money with similar task-based sites like Survey Junkie and Inbox Dollars. Like Remotasks, they don’t provide “job replacing” income but they are a great way to get started if you’ve never made money online before.

As you gain more experience online, it can lead to something more serious like an online business.

You may be at home with children to look after or have a medical condition, for example, which makes working a regular job challenging.

If that’s the case and a full-time income online is what you want, knowing how and where to get started is what you need in order to get what you want.

Remotasks Reviews and Complaints

As mentioned earlier, just because Remotasks is legit doesn’t mean they’re perfect. And that’s reflected in the many Remotasks reviews and complaints.

Here are some typical comments from positive reviewers…

  • You can immediately start working on their platform when you pass their exams.
  • If you’re patient, you can get a lot of work done on Remotasks.
  • They actually pay (this might seem obvious but online platforms that pay promptly are not always easy to find).
  • Low pressure and low stress.
  • Being able to work from home.

There are also negative Remotasks reviews…

  • One review claims that work was labeled “incorrect,” Therefore, she didn’t get paid. Keep in mind, your work will be reviewed before it is accepted. If it is not accepted, payment will not be released.
  • Another says that their calculations are not transparent, and in some instances, earnings had decreased for unclear reasons. This is a valid concern. Understandably, your pay depends on various factors, but it’s also easy to see that more clarity would be appreciated.

What I Like About Remotasks

  • Remotasks is a legit way to earn a few extra bucks in your spare time.
  • They automatically release payments every Friday via PayPal.
  • No minimum payment threshold.
  • Free training is provided.
  • LiDAR tasks offer higher pay rates.
  • Most jobs are simple, and there is a low barrier to entry.

What I Don’t Like

  • While a low barrier to entry can be good for accessibility, it also means an abundance of workers and a lot of competition. Because of that, tasks may not be available regularly.
  • Another drawback of easy accessibility and high competition is low pay rates.
  • There could be more clarity when it comes to having your work reviewed, but that could be said about most (if not all) task-based platforms.
  • Owners and founders of Remotasks are annonymous.

Where Do You Go From Here?

Remotasks is worth trying if you’re looking for some extra spending money because legit sites like this can be hard to come by.

You have probably found similar sites that claim to pay ridiculous amounts of money, but those that sound too good to be true, are.

You won’t get rich with Remotask, but at least you know what you’re going to get.

If you’re a student in school or a single parent at home, you might be looking for something more. Or maybe you’re just looking to escape the rat race.

If that’s the case, an online business may be what you want.

Knowing how and where to get started the right way is what you need in order to get what you want.

If you’re just looking for a simple way to make some extra spending money, Remotasks can offer you that, along with other legit get-paid-to sites and online survey sites.

Inbox Dollars offer rewards for doing things like watching videos, visiting websites, and searching the web, and Survey Junkie will pay you for your opinion.

Like Remotasks, they don’t pay a lot but they’re a good first step if you’ve never made money online before.

I hope my review has been helpful. Please share in the comments section below if you have any comments, questions, or experience with Remotasks.
